Residents in the historic Mill Hill neighborhood will swing open their gates and invite people to come in to see the possibilities of summer entertaining in their gardens on Saturday, June 13, from noon to 5 p.m.
The 24th annual Mill Hill Garden Tour is called “The City Soirees: Behind Garden Gates”. The self-guided tour begins at Artworks, located at 19 Everett Alley and South Stockton Street.
Tickets for the Mill Hill Garden Tour are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Advanced sale tickets can be purchased online at www.trentonmillhill.org or at ticket sale locations listed on the website. The proceeds from the tour help fund the Old Mill Hill Society Neighborhood Restoration Grant program that aids property owners in restoring and maintaining the landmark and historic features of the neighborhood.
While the streetscape in Mill Hill presents a unified façade of row houses, every backyard garden is unique. During the neighborhood’s on-going restoration process, not only are the interiors of many of Mill Hill’s properties developed into modern, sometimes sleek spaces, the gardens featured on this year’s tour have been given equal care and consideration . In these 19th century houses, the juxtaposition of old and new molds seamlessly into one.
“I am very excited and proud to be a part of this year’s Garden Tour,” said Garden Tour Chairperson Craig Shofed. “We love to entertain throughout the summer with neighbors and family. The Garden Tour is a great way to share with our surrounding communities what is so special about our neighborhood. It’s a great way for our visitors to see a part of Trenton that is rarely talked about outside of our community”.
