“How does police and community work better together?” said Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson, framing the discussion at the start of Monday evening’s community and police forum held at the Trenton Masonic Lodge.
“Things have gotten to the point where policing in the United States is an occupational force,” said Acting Police Director Ernest Parrey at the forum. Trenton is an “us and them, as opposed to an us. It doesn’t need to be that way,” he said.
First the good news. Acting Director Parrey and the police appear to genuinely want to communicate with city residents, and partner with them to bring the city back. Parrey was particularly passionate in comments about how he doesn’t want to hear about other New Jersey cities. His focus is Trenton and he wants to hear good things about the capital. [Read more…]
