A 27-year-old Trenton driver who was being chased by a Pennsylvania State Trooper crashed into the front of the Trenton Social bar and restaurant around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
According to Middletown, Pa. police, the unnamed man was driving north on Interstate 95 at the 41.6 mile marker when a police officer tried to pull him over for motor vehicle violations. He instead sped off and ended up on South Broad street in Trenton, where he crashed his blue Ford sedan into the front of Trenton Social.
The man then fled on foot and the officer tazed him before he was taken into custody.
He was charged with fleeing to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, drug possession, driving while under the influence, and other motor vehicle charges. The Middletown Police Department did not release the man’s name.
Charges will also be filed by the Trenton Police Department. The Trenton Police Department is assisting with the investigation. Under the state’s Open Public Records Act, police in New Jersey must release the named of a person charged with a crime within 24 hours of arrest.
Trenton Social will be closed for up to a week while the building is repaired and glass windows are replaced, owner TC Nelson said in a message on Facebook this morning.
